Amanda is an incredibly tallented jazz musician regularly performing in the San Francisco Bay Area. She has spent most of her life there absorbing music in all of its flavors in order to refine her own. Currently she is currently in the studio finishing up the tracks for her upcoming album and needed promotional photography before the release.
We got together in Mariposa for a warm day a few weeks ago with nothing really planned out. Natalie provided the makeup and Amanda left the art direction to me, with the one requirement that we get something "green". Easy enough. We traveled down the road a bit from my studio to a small stream and were blessed with beautiful light. We worked there for a little while and nailed the something green, then traveled a little more to another favorite spot of mine where we unexpectedly found this killer brown leather chair on an old abandoned porch. All of us were amazed that we could stumble into something so perfect as this.
Amanda's new album and site is on the way, I'll make sure to keep you all posted here when it drops!

Not long after opening the brick and mortar studio in Mariposa I was contact by a local designer Wendy Davis for a photo shoot. She was planning a complete rebranding of the Pacific Northwest clothing company Permanent Defendants and needed photographs for the new materials.
After a bit of planing we set up a studio session when we could all get together. Wendy provided all of the models and clothing as well as the art direction. We went with a simple but strong look and it worked perfectly. There's something so beautiful about the simplicity studio work - stripping a portrait down to just the subject. Here's a few of my favorites that I pushed a few of my favorite from the day into black and white for even more simplicity.
