A few weeks ago I shared the photographs from Jessica and Chris' day after session in a local waterfall. But that was only part of the story, Jessica still wanted to really push the envelope with her dress. We met up one more time to work on an idea that Jessica brought to me - what if her and Chris put their wedding attire on one more time and got a little messy with ice cream?

The three of us got together one morning in the studio. I love the simplicity of a clean white background and knew that it was the perfect match for Jessica and Chris' session. Combined with the bright color of the ice cream and candies it worked flawlessly.

Of course, once we brought Jessica and Chris together with ice cream and a few bottles of champagne, the real magic started right in front of me. Jessica's reaction and surprise as the champagne began to fly is priceless and the colors that her dress took on as the ice cream spilled were perfect. But most important of all was the simple and playful nature of Jessica and Chris as they stopped posing and were let loose on the studio set to just be. Their love for each other shinned through everything and made these photographs.

This is a lovely, awesomely goof-infused creative idea and accomplishment for all three of you. I am looking for ideas for my future wedding, and love this spontaneous silliness. Cheers for sharing! Healthy relationship and great photos to you!

It was two years ago when I photographed Jessica and Chris' wedding at the Elderberry House. I've gotten to know them quite well since then and stay in contact with them. One of the things that they have always wanted to do (I think we decided this before their wedding) was do a day after shoot without respect to keeping her wedding dress perfectly clean.

There was a lot of planning and potential dates, but we never were able to line our schedules up. Finally we got together on a warm afternoon at a group of natural pools above Bass Lake. The sunlight was just peaking through the trees and created this magical light around Jessica and Chris. We were lucky enough to be joined by another photographer that happened to be in town, Tracey from Firefly Mobile Studios. Tracey and I took turns taking setting up Jessica and Chris in the lush river gorge.

Of course, being this close to water meant that I just had to bring Jessica and Chris into the water. Before too long (maybe all of five minutes), I was with them in the river, lights and all. I started off photographing Jessica in the river as Chris just watched his bride. Seeing the way that he looked at her, and how they interacted with each other quickly brought back memories of their wedding day.

I had my underwater housing with me that day, but with the water moving as quickly as it was, it was far too murky to have much visibility. So instead, we kept everything on top of the water. Unfortunately with the opportunity of photographing a couple in water, comes the risk of photographing a couple in water. It wasn't too long before Tracey, with one small slip, fell into the water with her camera. The camera didn't survive. Even though we had plenty of backup equipment, we decided that was the appropriate time to wrap the day.

But I was not done photographing Jessica and Chris yet. Instead, I brought Jessica and Chris over to my house to share some champagne and ice-cream; and really, isn't that the perfect combo? As I've already said, things did get a bit messy, but that's a story for another day (and coming really soon).

So awesome. Do I detect a slight color balance shift on that first image? Perfect light on the last one, sublte and fitting for the scene, no reason to go nuclear with it... gotta finesse it, and you definitely did

Love them! Can't wait to see the "trashing" session! What a fun day that was!
