I just got back from a long weekend in San Francisco. Here's the proof: one from Erica and Brett's engagement session this afternoon. I really love this shot because it's a traditional shot in a traditional location, and at the same time, it's not. Tons more fun coming soon.

Austin and Mariah live in Colorado and grew up in Los Angeles, but they are getting married next May in the small town of Groveland. Why Groveland you might ask? Well beyond the small towns beauty, Austin's family purchased a slice of land and built their dream home on it. Knowing how much the home means to their family and what it will mean in the future, Austin and Mariah decided to have their wedding right there at the house. In fact, the day that I met up with them, a large barn was just starting to be built to serve as a reception hall for the wedding. How cool is that?

Besides obviously having their priorities in order, Austin and Mariah compliment each other perfectly. The simple fact that they are planning their wedding at their parents house speaks volumes about them. And did I mention they are actually sharing the wedding planning responsibilities?

We all talked for a while about their wedding plans before heading outside for a few photographs. Despite being May it had snowed the night before and still wasn't too warm yet, but the meadow in front of their house was gorgeous! Everwhere I turned I kept seeing new ideas for great shots (but I have to save something for the wedding right?) in my head. Eventually we headed into town and even into a gold rush era bar. And best of all, despite having a nerve-inducing camera pointing at them they were always at home in each others arms.

After we were all done, I enjoyed some tasty mexican food in Groveland before heading home (thanks for the recommendation). I drove home with the feeling of making two new friends. Did I mention that Austin and Mariah took advantage of the free engagement photos that I am offering?

I love them all. But especially the one in the forest, the one on the red porch and the one in front of the blue wall. Patrick Pike has a great eye. And Mariah and Austin are a perfect couple. Aunt Carole

Despite the cold weather, our crappy outfits, and me not feeling that well I think these pictures still turned out great. Artistic but real at the same time. I can't decide which one I like best - I like them all for different reasons. Thank you, Patrick, for being so patient with us and for finding such awesome moments. ~;0)

Katie and I joined Sarah and her bridesmaids at her house early in the afternoon as they were getting ready. The Jack in the Box was still fresh on the table and everyone was in good spirits as they finished up. Sarah was incredibly relaxed and not nervous in the slightest.  As she said, she was ready to get married and just soaking in the day.

After the limo picked up Sarah and the girls, Katie and I drove over to meet the Chase and his guys. They were all ready to go when we got there (it took them about ten minutes to get ready) and looking sharp. We only had a few minutes with them before the ceremony started, but we were able to knock out some crazy cool portraits.

At the church Sarah stayed out of sight while their guests gathered and the limo returned with the guys. Tucked away, she chatted with her girls and received one last embrace from her parents before she was married. Chase waited patiently at the front of the church until he caught the first glimpse of this bride. The ceremony seemed quick to me, I can only imagine how it felt to Sarah and Chase.

Right after the ceremony Sarah and Chase greeted their guests outside the church. Then we all headed for the reception at the Atwater Community Center. After a few quick family portraits Sarah, Chase, Katie and I walked out into the field for a few more photographs of just them. Sarah was stunning and Chase Mr. Cool--together they were in love. I loved how the looked at each other and held each other. You could just see it in their eyes.

Inside everyone enjoyed a delicious dinner while the bridal party took turns honoring the bride and groom. During dinner Katie and I set up the crazybooth and got ready to get busy. Once the guests finished dinner (and some before) the crazybooth was jumping with Katie at the helm. All of the guests loved being able to pose and have prints made right there to take home as suveniours from the wedding. In the meantime the Dave from TNG DJ kept the music flowing for the dance floor.

The night went off without a hitch. Everyone enjoyed the party while Sarah and Chase got to spend the evening with their guests. But before I could let them go for the night, I snuck them outside of one last photograph. Make sure you scroll all the way to the end--let's just say I have a soft spot in my heart cool cars.

Congratulations again Sarah and Chase and thank you for bringing us along for the ride!

Ceremony: St. Anthony's Church Atwater

Patrick and Katie...it was a dream of Sarah's to have you as her official photographer for her wedding. As you may well know, Sarah is very particular in what she wants. She wanted the best, and she got the best. You both made everyone feel comfortable and was non-intrusive and at times I didn't know you were there. The crazy photo booth was a hit and such a great idea to have family take their photos also. We are awaiting the photos with baited breath. Take your time, perfection is slow sometimes. Thanks again for being Sarah and Chase's shadow!

Once you look to your love and listen to yourself, weddings really are whatever you want them to be. That's the secret Alessandra and Ray discovered and it allowed them to have the wedding of their dreams.

Alessandra is a bit camera shy, but a lover of art. She actually made the shawl that she wore!  Ray is a true lover of the outdoors golfing every weekend and spending as much time in the open air as possible. Together they are this amazing force of love and happiness.

Alessandra and Ray have been coming to Yosemite every year to enjoy the outdoors, so for them it was almost understood that they would marry here. Embracing their heritage, Dr. Judy DeRosa held a Native American bonding ceremony on the banks of Merced River. I have never been a part of a bonding ceremony before, so the traditions were new to me. One thing I did learn very quickly is that Ray has a tradition of smiling and laughter. Throughout the entire ceremony (and day) he couldn't take his eyes off of his bride.

Once the ceremony was over, Alessandra and Ray visited with their family sharing embraces.   After a while Alessandra, Ray and I traveled around Yosemite Valley for a while taking in the springtime. The dogwoods had just started to bloom, the waterfalls were flowing, and the weather was perfect. Whenever we got in and out of the car, Ray was always there to make sure the door was opened for Alessandra as he helped her in - how cool is that?

After our tour through the park, Alessandra and Ray came back to their reception site, aka their camping site surrounded by their friends and family. The iPod was cranked up with Stairway to Heaven as they shared their first dance as husband and wife in the open air. Alessandra's sister made the wedding cake, a cake that a squirrel wanted to claim as his own.

Just before I left them for the day, Ray pulled me aside and told me he had a surprise for his wife. While Alessandra was visiting with family he stepped into the RV and pulled out a beautiful painting done by Judy to remember their marriage by. Alessandra was in tears as Judy described the painting the its symbolism for their lives.

I feel really lucky to be able to share in days like this. It's great to see such a unique a unique understanding of what a wedding celebration is. Alessandra and Ray are still in Yosemite as I write this, they will be their for three days after their wedding, enjoying the start of their new life together. I can't wait to hear where your travels take you, make sure and keep me posted!
